SEA SHANTIES, SAILOR SONGS & FOREBITTERS

Brewhouse is becoming well recognised for sea shanty recording and for the research required to support the albums. The Brewhouse library collection of sea shanty source material and of books about the great ships from the days of sail continues to grow and diversify.

DICK MILES AND FRIENDS AROUND THE HARBOUR TOWN (BHCD20037)

Dick Miles has an abiding interest in traditional music and is well known for his rendering of such great story ballads as Lord Bateman (track 7) and Tam Lin (track 11). He is also a skilled writer of songs on modern themes. Dick was born and raised in Suffolk and his East Anglian roots run deep; some of his best songs are based on the superb traditional tales of the region.

Now living in Ireland, Dick finds that he is incorporating influences of the local traditional music into his own personal style.

THE MOLLYHAWKS SHANTIES FROM THE GREAT DAYS OF SAIL (BHCD9801)

The Mollyhawks are a shanty singing group established in 1996. They use more harmony in the chorus than is truly authentic but the pace, the rhythms and the precision are as they should be. Their sound is fun and memorable. The harmony arrangements are wonderful. The CD is packaged with a 48-page booklet giving words, sources, uses and origins of the shanties. The sleeve note research brings new information for the true sea shanty buffs.

The name MOLLYHAWKS is a seaman's derivation of mollymawks, the common name for the Black-Browed Albatross.

THE SHANTY CREW SEA SHANTIES AND SAILOR SONGS (BHCD9601)

The Shanty Crew perform their shanties in a very authentic way. The singing is mostly in unison in the true fashion of the days of sail. The rhythms used are true work ones. Chris Roche The Shanty Crews leader has sailed around The Horn and to remote places such as Pitcairn, Easter Island, as well as Australia, New Zealand etc. His knowledge of shanty and working ship gives authority to this CD. The CD is packaged with a 52-page booklet giving the words, their sources and the use in sailing ships.

A FOLK SONG RECORD FOR CANCER CARE

BERYL GRAEME CELTIC REFLECTIONS: MOTH TO A FLAME (CRTCD0001)

As a consequence of a rare sarcoid, Beryl Graeme has been unable to sing for eight years. Fortunately, before losing her ability to sing, she recorded some unaccompanied songs for her father at Blank Tape Studios in Sheffield.

In 1999 Brewhouse and Blank Tape co-operated to add backing music and harmony vocals to some tracks. We subsequently produced this beautiful CD of Beryl's haunting voice performing mostly Irish but also some Scottish songs.

All money from sales is divided by The Celtic Reflections Trust equally to two cancer care charities.

Everyone involved with Moth To A Flame gave their time without charge and some financial help from anonymous donors made this CD a reality.

The causes supported are important but this CD is wonderful in its own right.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

CIURLIONIS AND MOZART STRING QUARTETS (NATCD0001)

THE VILNIUS QUARTET

This CD was produced by BREWHOUSE for NATALYAS FUND, a British charity which provided equipment for childrens wards in Lithuanian hospitals.

Ciurlionis (1875-1911) is a little known composer and little of his music is available in recordings. As far as we know this is the only available Recording of his Quartet No. 2 in C minor. The music deserves to be better known. It is classical in style, lyrical and it will be a delightful surprise to newcomers to this undervalued Lithuanian composer.
The Vilnius Quartet is of course, also from Lithuania.

A non musical surprise is the cover picture which was painted by the composer who called it Friendship. Purely fortuitously it is an echo of the Natalyas Fund logo.

We really can recommend introducing yourself to the music of Ciurlionis through this CD. All money raised from sales is for the Charity.

FRANZ SCHUBERT SYMPHONIES 6 & 5 (CLCCD3908)

Recorded by the Helsinborg Symphony Orchestra, Otto Kamu conducting, at the orchestra's home concert hall in Sweden.

Lyrical and true to the score, no artificial acoustics or audio tricks.

In response to many requests this CD has been re-mastered and re-released (2003).

VARIOUS COMPOSERS [see below] CLASSICAL SYNTHESIS (BHCD2007)

CHRISTOPHER ROWAND, synthesizer.

This CD is an exploration into the potential for producing serious classical music using synthesized sound. All of the instruments here are synthesized and therefore exist only in the computer.

Christopher Rowand has produced music true to composer's scores and with all of the immediacy, artistry and feel of a live concert hall performance.

Brewhouse is pleased to produce this 'music for the Millennium' drawing on the great classical repertoire yet using the latest in sythesised sound techniques.

As listeners will hear, Christopher Rowand is a truly brilliant player of keyboards and a sensitive musician. We hope that you will find his performance of this music as exciting as we did in our studio.

COUNTRY MUSIC

JOHN BARRY NASHVILLE STYLE (HB9501)

12 great contemporary Country classics. John Barry's rich baritone is well suited to this genre of song. The CD includes such great hits as Bobbie Ann Mason, Indian Outlaw, If The World Had a Front Porch, and The Grundy County Auction.

The Brewhouse HOME BREW label is normally marketed only by the artists concerned (we have done many of them). We have only ever recorded one Country album. We list it here because we believe it is of interest to lovers of the contemporary country style.

Brewhouse includes Early Music, Traditional Music and what may best be described as Folk / Traditional based music.
